Tesla Tiny House to visit major Australian cities
The energy self-sufficient Tesla Tiny House is currently on tour in Australia to showcase the company’s cutting edge renewable technology. It is mounted on wheels and is being towed around the country by a Tesla Model X with visits scheduled for Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.
The Tesla Tiny House website features an interactive map of where it will be stopping and you can even request the team to make a stop in your suburb. Tesla energy experts will be on hand to answer any questions about how their energy products can help you sustainably power your home, protect you during outages and reduce your energy bills.
Tesla Tiny House tour dates
The Tesla Tiny House made its debut in Melbourne’s Federation Square on August 14 and it will be moving to the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre between 17 and 20 August.
The mobile showcase will be at Sydney’s Randwick Community Centre for the Eco-Living Fair on 2 September before heading to the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre for the Home Show between 8 and 10 September.
Adelaide’s Rundle Mall is the next port of call between 20 September and 2 October before rounding off the trip with a return to Sydney at Lane Cove’s Sustainability Lane on 8 October and the Sydney Home Show at Sydney Olympic Park between 27 and 29 October.
Experts to offer advice at Tesla Tiny House stopovers
The energy self-sufficient Tesla Tiny House is a similar idea to the mobile design studio it introduced last September, which was a reconfigured Airstream that let people build their own Tesla vehicle in a virtual studio.
The Tiny House is built out of sustainable timber. It weighs just under 2,000 kilograms and has a 2kW solar generation capacity using 6 panels, which can feed the single Powerwall battery mounted on the side.
Tesla doesn’t yet offer solar installations in Australia, but it clearly wants to enter the market. It does sell Powerwall batteries for use with solar installations from other providers.
On the commercial side, Tesla is also building the world’s largest lithium-ion battery with its Powerpack batteries, in South Australia to store energy generated by a wind farm built by French company Neoen.
